It is time to sign up for maintenance projects that Forty-Sixer crews will undertake in 2012. We have included a signup sheet. Please use it for your email or mail response to Dave Dietrich. Come and join us as often as you can.

Note the difficulty level. Projects requiring a considerable hike to reach the work site will be considered more difficult as will projects involving a lot of carrying of heavy loads. Levels range from Easy, Medium Difficult. Some outings, may have several sub projects and may have a multiple rating, such as (E-D).

2012 Trail Maintenance Schedule
Saturday, May 12, Dix-Round Pond Blowdown Sweep (E-D)
We will clear blowdown from the trailhead to the summit of Dix and clean water bars along the route. We will meet at the trail parking lot on Route 73 at 7:30 a.m.
Saturday, May 26, Spring Meeting Work Day (E-D)
We will have crews clearing blowdown and cleaning water bars on the trails to Indian Pass, Wallface Ponds, and the North Trail to Giant. The Indian Pass/Wallface Ponds crews will meet at the ADK hiker building at 7:15 a.m. The North Trail crew will meet at the trailhead parking lot, Route 9N at 7:15 a.m. Please let us know on the sign up sheet which area you would prefer to work.
Saturday (E-D), June 9 Sunday (M-D) June 10, Dix-Elk Lake work
We will clear blowdown from the Hunters Pass and Beckhorn trails to the summit of Dix on Saturday. Sunday will consist of trail hardening between Slide and Lillian Brooks. We will meet at the old Frontier Town parking lot off of Exit 29 of the Northway at 7:15 a.m. and carpool to Elk Lake each morning, or join us camping at Slide Brook to avoid the Sunday trip in.
Saturday (D), June 23 Sunday (M-D) June 24, Dix-Elk Lake work
We will be doing rock work on the Round Pond-Dix trail between the lean-to and the slide. Note that this is a long walk just to reach the work site. Sunday will consist of trail hardening before Lillian Brook on the Elk Lake trail. Saturday we will meet at the Round Pond trailhead at 7:30, and Sunday at Frontier Town at 7:15.
Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22, Women’s Only Weekend
We will camp at one of the State camp grounds and work with Darwin, our DEC contact, on a project, or two, to be determined. Sign up and we will communicate the details to you about two weeks before the outing.
Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19, Putnam Pond Weekend with Darwin
We will camp at the State campground so no need to “rough it”. Camp sites will be available Friday afternoon, so join us then if you can. Darwin always has interesting projects for us to do during this fun weekend.
Saturday, September 15, Project to be determined
Sign up and we will provide details two weeks before the outing.
Fall Meeting Dix Round Pond Sidecutting/rock work
We will work on Saturday, the day of the fall meeting. We will meet at the trailhead at 7:00. Note the early start to ensure time to be ready for meetings and supper.
Please sign up with Dave Dietrich for each outing that you plan to attend. We rarely change a scheduled event, but if we do and you haven’t signed up, we can’t contact you about any change. In accordance with DEC policy, children under sixteen years of age cannot perform trail work.
